The first sale of the year in Ck-On-Shannon was held on Saturday 5th February with 78 bulls on offer.  Irish Angus Perpetual Cup for the Irish Angus Champion bull & Supreme champion of the sale went to Joe &   

Cathal McCormack, Steil, Tulsk, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon  with  Steil F Windy 162, sired by Aynho Rossiter Eric B125 and out of a Drumahillan Roy Dam.  This bull sold for €3600.

The Moroney Perpetual Silver Cup also went to  Joe & Cathal McCormack for the best pair of Angus bulls.

Top price of the day of €4800  went to Patrick Regan, Ballyfarna, Claremorris with their first prize winning bull  Loughlynn Foxy Boy, sired by Lawsons Ford Bagatelle and out of a Baronagh Euro Dam. This bull was sold to David Weir, Dungannon, Co. Tyrone.

Two sons for Chapelton Eventer  E809 sold for €3050 and €2900 respectively, while another son of Lawsons Ford Bagatelle sold for  €2900. 

Next highest priced bull was first prize winning bull Santanna Furty  sired by Black Banner X1 of Idvies  and bred by Anne Shryane, Rooskey, Ballaghaderreen Co. Roscommon and sold for €2800. 

A son of Coldstream Genetic Trend out of a Lissard Mark dam also soldfor €2800.

Lot number 48  Ernehill Finn bred by Francis & Noel Fitzpatrick sold for €2500, this September 2009 bull was sired by Coneyisland Legend and out of a Dalrene Cruz Dam. 

David Lillie, Corrick, Ballinafad, Sligo sold  a Nakked Nord son Corrick Finage  for €2200, this calf was born October '09  out of  a Fordel Eisenhower Dam.

Joe  & Cathal McCormack's lot no 61, sired by Aynho Rossiter Eric sold for €2200, dam of this bull was sired by Steil Andrew. 

Michael & Oliver Flanagan, Moydrum, Athlone sold a  September '09 bull for €2050, this bull was sired by Cardona Black Star out of a Acumen Bold Leader Dam.

Cloghogue Fortune exhibited by Edmund O'Carroll, Castlebaldwin, Sligo and sired by Coneyisland Legend sold for €2000.

A small number of bulls & heifers were on offer at this sale with Champion bull exhibited & bred by Michael & Martin Sheahan, Kilmallock, Limerick selling for €2000. Reserve Champion was lot 25 bred by Joseph McCormack, Steil, Tulsk, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon and was unsold on the day.  Top price of the sale went to a bull sired by Idvies Euris B112 selling for €3500.   Steil F Nexus bred by Joseph McCormack sold for €1800, this bull was sired by Coneyisland Legendwhile a son of Black Banner X1 of Idvies sold for €1700.

Buyers flocked to Carrick on Shannon for this April Sale with almost a full clearance and average price of  €2350 and a top price of €5500 for a Netherton Fleurs Legacy son while a son of Jersusalem Faraday son sold for €5000.  With the average price up more than one thousand when compared to last year.  The Irish Angus Cattle Society offered a generous bonus of €400 each to the buyers of the top two highest priced Irish Angus bulls generating great interest in this sale, leading to a brisk trade.

The top priced Irish Angus Bulls were Clooncolligan Glorious, bred by Kevin Diffley, Clooncolligan, Bornacoola, Co. Leitrim and sold to James Keaney, Kilmactranny, Boyle, Co. Sligo. This January ’10 born bull was the Irish Angus All Ireland Junior Champion, sired by Aughnamona Pranni and out of the All Ireland Supreme Champion cow Clooncolligan Daffodil.  The second highest price Irish Angus Bull was Tower Gavin Bred by Gerard Lenehan, Rathlee, Easkey, Sligo and sold to Ian Turley, Norfold, England. This January 10 bull was sired Nakkeg Nord and a Tonroe Udi Dam.

Sons of Deveron Latimer and Coldstream Genetic Trend sold for €3800 and €3300 respectively.  Joseph McCormack received €3150 for Steil G Wizzle sired by Retties Dale Hogan and purchased by Trevor Bagnall, Riverstown, Co. Sligo. Joe McEllin, Mohill Co. Leitrim sold his March 2010 calf to Michael Power, Shepards Rest, Askeaton, Co. Limerick for €3050.  This March calf was sired by Sunset Acres Bang and a DMM Distinction Dam.  Ballyshannon Garret bred by James Morrow, Ballyshannon, Donegal sold to P. Woods, Kilfenora Co. Clare, this bull was sired by Priestown Jupiter.  Lot no.  30 bred by Cathal Duignan,  Eslin, Ck-On-Shannon, Co. Leitrim sold to J. Weston Geashill Co. Offaly for €2650, while Michael O’Connor’s Ballycaher Gold sold to Donal Duignan, Larkhill, Boyle Co. Roscommon for €2550 .  Lot no. 51 Loughlynn Graphite, sired by Geis Gambler and bred by Patrick Regan , Ballyfarna, Claremorris, Co. Mayo sold to Andrew Rabbitte, Ballyhaunis Co. Mayo for €2550.  Lot no 33 bred and exhibited by Joseph J McCormack sold to John Crawford, Inagh Co. Clare for  €2550.  A young Dale Touchdown son  sold for €2250 to David Conlon, Flagfield, Geevagh, Sligo, this bull was bred and exhibited by Nuala Mulligan, Hollygrove, Ballygar, Co. Galway.

Lot no 24 bred and exhibited by John & Cathy Farrell  sold to  J. Dempsey, Woodlands, Tinahely, Co. Wicklow for €2200, this bull was sired by Coneyisland Legend.  Lot no 36  bred and exhbited by Patrick Henry,  9 Gallagher Terrace, Tubbercurry,  Sligo also sold for €2200, this bull was sired by Rawburn Transformer  and was purchased by Joseph Clarke Dunderry Stud Navan. Martin Garvey, Liscolvin Co. Roscommon sold his January '10 bull to Pat McGurn, Portinode, Co. Fermanagh, this calf sold for €2000

Heifers

The Irish Angus Cattle Society offered a bonus of €200 to the purchaser of the top priced Irish Angus heifer  this bonus was awared to Joe Keville, Annaduff, Ck-On-Shannon who purchased the Reserve Champion heifer for €2500. This heifer was bred and exhibited by Michael Gallagher, Lavey, Charlestown, Co. Mayo and sired by  Lawsonsford Bagatelle.  Champion heifer sired by Bohey Jasper sold for €2250.  Seamus Prior, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim received  €1700 and €1500 for twin heifers born May 2009.  Lot no. 69 bred and exhibited by Pauric Gavigan, Ballyshannon, Donegal sold for €1500  while lot no 78  sold for 1500, this heifer was bred and exhibited by Anthony Dockery, Elphin Roscommon and sired by Glendara Walnut

Once again The Irish Angus Cattle Society offered a generous bonus of €400 to the buyers of the top two highest priced Irish Angus Bulls.  This indeed boosted sales with a top price of €3175 being paid for Ambrose & Claire Langrell's   Foxcover Farrar, this bull was sired by Jerusalem Faraday and purchased by  Murtagh Kearney, Gurteen Waterford.  The next highest price was for lot 82 bred and exhibited by Eamonn McKiernan, Newtown, Monasterboice, Co. Louth . This  bull was sold for  €3050 to Tom O'Dwyer, Cappawhite, Callan  Co. Kilkenny and sired by Mountgordan Pride.

Knockmountagh Gulliver bred by Eamonn McKiernan, Monasterboice, Co. Louth sold for €2850, born 08.03.10 and sired by Netherton Fleur's Legacy.

Another Netherton Fleur's Legacy son sold for €2500 this bull was bred by Ambrose & Clare Langrell. Champion bull Cavetown Ferdinand bred and exhibited by Norman & Joy Little Cavetown, Boyle Co. Roscommon and sired by Kilkelly Belvin also sold for €2500.  Michael & Oliver Flanagan's Moydrum George, born end of April 2010 sold for €2400, this calf was sired by Coneyisland Legend.  Frank McKiernan, Lacken Lower, Ballinagh Cavan sold his lot 94  for €2250, this calf was sired by Rahavanig Dadie. Judge Kevin Diffley tapped out Beryl Gerry as his Champion.

This bull was bred and exhibited by Gerard Hogan, Comea, Kilfeacle, Co. Tipperary and sired by Cheeklaw  Eirwyn. This bull was the highest priced Irish Angus Bull at €3700 and qualified for the Irish Angus Bull buyers Bonus of €400.

Bonus was awarded to Denis Jones, Ballydesmond, Co Cork, purchaser.  Reserve Champion was Goulding F202 Eamonn bred and exhibited by Matthew Goulding, Kilmore, Ballyduff, Co. Kerry, this bull was sired by Aynho Rossiter Eric and purchased by John M Laide, Ballyheigue, Co. Kerry also qualifying for the Irish Angus Bull buyers Bonus of  €400 for the second highest priced Irish Angus Bull of the Sale.

Michael O’Connors Clonmeen Gladiator was the next highest priced bull selling for €2750 to John Moloney, Bruff, Co. Limerick.  This bull was sired by Aynho Rossiter Eric.  Goulding Jumbo King K424 sold for €2400, sired by Aynho Rossiter Eric  and bred by Matthew Goulding, Ballyduff, Co. Kerry.   David & Heather Barnby’s  Dunbarry Finbarr  sold for €2300 and was sired by stock bull  Steil Wesley. Another bull making €2300  was Knockane Famous  bred by Peter O’Connor , Firies, Killarney Co. Kerry  and sired by Sandylane Tadgh.   John P Leen’s Feb. ’10 bull sold for €2250 to Tom Barry, Mallow.  John & Michael Lynch’s Portauns Mister Monty sold for €2200 to Paul Ryan, Newport, Tipperary , sired by Dunlouise Montana, while lot no 22 also made €2200, this bull was bred and exhibited by Dermot O’Hanlon, Mallow, Cork.   Another bull bred by David & Heather Barnby , sold for €2100 also out of Steil Wesley.

Lot 19, bred by Mary F. Smith,  Doneraile, Cork sold for €2100  while John & Frank Appelbe’s  Carrigroe Great , sired by Loughlynn Ace sold for €2000.

Champion Heifer Sold for €1600, and was bred by John & Frank Appelbe, Clonakilty, Cork and sold to Sean Cronin Scartaglen, Killarney.  This heifer qualified for the Irish Angus Highest priced heifer Bonus of €200.

Top price of the day was paid for lot 25, This bull sold for €4500 and was sired by Curzon Entertainer C088., with lot number 29 selling for €3000 and sired by Netherton Figo. Lot 14 Bred and exhibited by Geraldine Shanley & Donal Spring , Bornacoola, Co. Leitrim , this bull was sired by Aughnamona D. Traction  and sold for €2900.

Lot  6   Ballykeevican Foxwood bred and exhbited by Jonathan Maye,Ballykeevican, Boyle Co. Roscommon  sold for €2550, this bull was sired by Foxwood Gerry and born August 2009.  Lot 4 sired by Woodvale Mr. Angus sold for €2300.

Clooncolligan Genuine, bred and exhibited by Kevin Diffley, Clooncolligan, Bornacoola, Co. Leitrim sold for €2250, this April 2010 bull was sired by Ballymagrine Wonder.  Drumhirk Gambler, bred and exhibited by Raymond Reynolds, Drumherk, Mohill, Co. Leitrim sold for €2000, this bull was sired by Coneyisland Legend. Another Coneyisland Legend bull  Towra Gregg  sold for €2000, this bull was bred and exhibited by Jim Dockery, Towra, Shinrone, Co. Offaly.

Cavetown Guy, sired by Nakkeg Nord sold for €1700 , this bull was bred and exhibited by Norman & Joy Little, Cavetown, Boyle, Co. Roscommon.  Lot number 54 also sold for €1700, this bull was bred and exhibited by Sean Regan, Farmhill, Loughlynn, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon.

A small number of heifers were on offer at this sale with top prices

being achieved by  James Clarke, St. Patrick's Street, Boyle for Rathiveen Gill, selling for €2900 and Rathiveen Gertie selling for €2500., both heifers were sired by Ballyshannon Eustace.

Lot 71  Borrough Fiona sold for €1600, this heifer was bred and exhibited by Seamus Prior, Ballinamore, Co. Leitrim and sired by Aughnamona Lord Hedian F208.   Lot 73  Yellowhill Fifi sold for €1500, this heifer was bred and exhibited by Stephen McGuinness, Mohill,  Co. Leitrim

May Sale Kilkenny had a top price of €3400 for a March '10 born bull sired by Lisduff Kit. Lot 59  Ashtree Gabriel sold for €2400, this bull was bred by G&N Richardson, Newtowngore, Co. Leitrim and sired by Fordel Eisenhower.

Another bull from the Ashtree Herd sold for €1750, this bull was sired by Glendara Walnut.  Lot 60 bred by Frank Mc Kiernan, Drumcrow, Cavan sold for €2375, while another lot from Frank McKiernan sold for €2000.  Cavetown Gordon bred and exhibited by Norman & Joy Little, Cavetown, Boyle, Co. Roscommon  sold for €2200,  and their lot number 48 sold for €2000, both bulls were sired by Kilkelly Belvin. Lot number 41 bred by Nigel Peavoy, Mountrath, Co. Laois  sold for €2200, this bull was sired by Coneyisland Legend., while another bull of Nigel Peavoy's sold for €1925, also sired by Coneyisland Legend.   Joe McCormack, Tulsk, Castlerea, Co. Roscommon  sold lot 27,  Steil F Montana  for €2000, this bull was also sired by Coneyisland Legend. 

Only 15 bulls were catalogued for this sale, with top price going to Frank Ward, Acres, Ballyshannon, Donegal for Acres Gerry, who sold for €2050.  Lot 7  Heatherview Gordan, bred and exhibited by Anne Flynn, Cloonart, Bornacoola, Leitrim sold for €2000, this bull was sired by Lawsonsford Bagatelle.   Lot 9,  Mayo Garry  bred and exhibited by Gerard Kilgallon, Claremorris, Co. Mayo sold for €1800, this bull was sired by Black Banner X1of Idvies.

Again a small number of heifers were on offer with top price of €2900 going to Dunlaveymore Georgina, this heifer was bred and exhibited by Michael Gallagher, Lavey, Charlestown, Co. Mayo and sired by Rawburn Eventer 2nd.  Lot 18, Duibhgiolla Fabulous  bred by Dara Diffley, Clooncolligan, Bornacoola,  Co. Leitrim sold for €2000, this heifer was sired by Ballymagrine Wonder.

The Irish Angus Cattle Society  Elite Show & Sale of Males and Females was held in Ck-On-Shannon on Saturday 10th December. Show was sponsored by Connollys Red Mills.

The Champion bull was All Ireland Junior Male Champion  Loughlynn Hurricane and  was  bred by Patrick Regan Jnr. Claremorris, Co. Mayo . This January '11 calf was sired by Tonroe Udi and sold for €7800 and

purchased by Des Donegan, Maam Cross, Co. Galway.

Reserve Champion bull  Knappagh Goal , sired by  Nakkeg Nord was bred by Martin Calvey, Knappaghmore Westport, Co. Mayo, and sold for €4000, purchased by John McCormack, Dysart, Mullingar Co. Westmeath.
