The Irish Angus Cattle society held their 12th Annual Elite Show & Sale on Saturday December 14th in the Showgrounds, Carrick on Shannon.
A total of 84 animals were presented for sale on the day and a sale clearance of 66% was achieved overall. The average sale price of the bulls was up by €300 on last year’s sale along with a 10% increase in the number of bulls sold.
Topping the trade at €6500 was the Reserve Overall Male Champion Laheen Rebel bred by Cathal and Cormac Duignan, Laheen House, Eslin Bridge,Carrick on Shannon, Co Leitrim. Rebel is sire by Hf Rebel and out of Rosemead Karona bred dam. He sold to the Longbank Pedigree herd in Scotland.
Judge on the day Michael Cronin tapped forward Driney Rock Star as his over all Male Champion. Rock Star was bred by Gerard Regen,Driney Loughglynn, Castlerea,Co Roscommon and he sold to Paul Cooney, Tunnyduff, Bailieboro, Co Cavan for €3200.
Overall Female Champion was awarded to Carrigroe R Dakota for the Appelbe Family, Carrigroe, Clonakitty Co. Cork. She then went on to be the top priced female on the day selling for €5700. R Dakota displayed the highest replacement value in the sale catalogue with a figure of €209, She sired by Rathosheen Hugo and her dam is Carrigroe Lady Tinge. R Dakota will now reside on the farm of Pat Gleeson, Carrigal,Carrigatoher, Nenagh, Co Tipperary.
Loughlynn Ruby Jane took the Reserve Female Champion Rosette for Patrick Regan, Cloonmore, Ballyfarna,Claremorris, Co Mayo. This November 2018 born heifer is bred by Netherton Americano and she sold for €2400.
