The Irish Angus Cattle Society hosted their inaugural sale in Cashel Mart Co Tipperary on Friday the 8th of May. That sale was originally planned for the 29th of April however it was postponed due to covid 19. The sale was moved to the 8th of May in the hope that there would be a slight lift in sale restrictions to allow a live auction take place with appropriate guidelines adhered to. Unfortunately, this did not happen and the sale went ahead as a private tender sale.
Exhibitors placed their bulls in individual pens with their breeding evaluations displayed on the gate, each bull had a reserve price and the auctioneer sold the bulls to prospective buyers. A total of 44 bulls were in the presale catalogued with 35 of these presenting for sale on the day.
The sale prices ranged from €2700 to €1650 with a sale clearance 37%. 13 out of the 35 bulls found new homes at an average sale price of €2300.
Top price went to Clooncarne Solar Ellipse bred by Tom Mulligan Currycramp, Dromad Co Leitrim. At an age of just 12 months Solar Ellipse was the youngest bull in the sale catalogue, he is sired by Rawburn Boss hogg and out of the Irish Angus All Ireland Senior Female Champion 2013 Clooncarne Jenny. He sold to Paul Mc Mahon, Sunlodge Herd Co Limerick at a price of €2700.
Joint second top price both came from the Drumcrow Herd owned by Frank Mc Kiernan, Lacken Lower, Ballinagh, Co Cavan. Firstly, Drumcrow Rio Grande sired by the renowned Drumcrow Joker and out of a Blelack Prince Consort bred cow, secondly Drumcrow Ring of Fire who was sired by Portauns Volcano and out of a Drumcrow Joker bred dam. Both sold at a price of €2625 to Britton Farms Ltd, Co Tipperary.
Next up was Newbridge Randy bred by Brendan & Edel Mc Cawley, Cornamuckla,North Dowra Co Leitrim. This Lanigan Red Lombard son sold for a price of €2575.
